David's Testimony

My life before I met Jesus.
I was a typical young person. I wasn’t really a bad person, but I tended to be selfish and my number one purpose in life was to have a good time. I was often foul mouthed and sarcastic. I had no real direction, purpose or meaning in life. I was just drifting along looking for the next good time.
How I realized my need for Jesus.
My mother came to me one day and asked me to start going to church with her and get baptized. I thought it was just one of those things that good people did, and I wanted to be a good person, so I started going to church regularly for the first time since I was a preschooler. I got active in the youth group and I listened. Even though I started attending church for the wrong reasons, I learned that just being a “good person” and believing that God exists out there somewhere was not enough to save me. I learned that even though I wasn’t an “axe murderer” or a "drug dealer," I was still a sinner who needed a change in my life. I learned that I needed to turn from the bad and selfishness things in my life and to turn to Jesus by inviting Him into my life as my Savior and Lord.
How I received Jesus as my Savior.
As I was laying in bed one night, I started thinking about all that I had been learning at church and my need to invite Christ into my heart and life. I didn’t understand it all, but I knew that I believed in Jesus. I knew that I wanted to go to heaven. I knew that I wanted to be on Jesus’ side, so I prayed that night in my bed before I went to sleep and asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins. I asked Him to come into my heart and life as my Lord and Savior.
How my life is different because of Jesus:
God began to slowly step by step change my life. He gave purpose, meaning and direction to my life. He began to deal with some of the sin and selfishness in my life. He cleaned up my dirty mouth. He gave me a new joy and peace. He gave me a new assurance that because of my faith in his life, death and resurrection, I could now know for certain that I had His eternal life (or would go to heaven).
As a Christian, God has made me a better father, a better husband and a better person. I believe that if it wasn’t for God, that my marriage would not have survived for nearly 40 years.
Since Jesus lives in my life, I am never alone. I always have a friend with me who loves me, cares for me and guides my life. He is there for me in the good times and especially in the bad times. Because of all that He has done for me, I love Him very much.
This is how I became a Christian. Wouldn’t you like to know what the Bible says about how you can have a real relationship with Jesus and know for certain that you will go to heaven one day?
